Build around 1546 on “Jánský vršek” (John’s Hill), opposite of the former church “St. John the Baptist”, the building later was renamed and known as the house “At the Donkey by the Cradle”.

The Renaissance house, was rebuild in Baroque style throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, and then extended with courtyard wings. Modifications and reconstructions occurred over five centuries according to the requirements of the owners.

The Englishman, Sir Edward Kelly (1555- 1597), an alchemist and spiritualist, was the most famous former owner and resident of this house. The tower (Kelly Tower) and other extensions were built after Kelly bought the building.
